I would love to see what other journos do with their ghosts of tweets past. For my part, I'll say- don't make promises in 2008 you can't back up in 2013: https://twitter.com/stevesaldi...

Re: In light of Te’o story, how can we fix sports journalism?

I agree to a point. but when you've got the same organization such as
ESPN calling themselves journalists also shelling out BILLIONS to get
first right of interviews and to show the games, then there is a
definite conflict of interest. And that trickles down throughout the
system methinks. Sorry, but that's just they way I feel.

Re: In light of Te’o story, how can we fix sports journalism?

I'm not saying one should just assume the story is fishy and dig in from there, but it something doesn't add up it should be pursued. Pete Thamel wrote about his process yesterday when reporting the original story about Te'o, he found major holes and question marks, but he ignored them and ran with it anyway. This is an issue in all facets of journalism and it just shouldn't happen. An update is on the way.

Re: In light of Te’o story, how can we fix sports journalism?

Mandy, I have to slightly disagree on this. What's the old saying about Zebras? "If you hear hoofbeats, think Zebras."

It's hard for sports journalists to be cynical about things like girlfriends. After all, where's the reward in making such a fabrication?

I also tried to follow the train of thought with following the logic. Eventually, I think there are going to be dead ends. Remember, the Deadspin guys were only able to put the pieces together when the pieces were given to them.

Re: That Post About the Lack of Posts

Aw, thanks for the vote of support. When I was still a social media editor, my job was far more exciting to other people, so I wrote about it a lot. My job now is very exciting to me, but most other journalists don't see it as all that glamourous...so I avoided writing about it. I might just need to strike the balance here!

Re: That Post About the Lack of Posts

Your TL;DR actually says it all IMO.

Blog about what you're learning then... and one more piece of advice from someone who learned the very same thing...

Don't try and "be" anyone else, or like anyone else... this blog is YOUR voice, YOUR content... so be YOU. You'll attract the readers who want "that."

If I want to read Rosen, Shirky, Jarvis etc... I'll read them.

Don't let this blog hit the graveyard ;)

Re: That Post About the Lack of Posts

Give yourself a break! In Virginia we've seen great response to SPJ and the Virginia Press Association coordinating conferences. Attendees get a broader range of sessions, and where the two organizations have overlapping interest in sessions they can work together.

Re: Addressing the Elephant in the Conference Hall

I agree almost entirely.
